Well - what can I say? We have unbelievably amazing kids at Family of Christ!!! To watch these kids in action as they serve is heartwarming and inspiring! Today groups did more work at the Union Gospel Missionand a couple of nursing homes and shared their love and faith with numerous people.
After our day of service, we joined with the people of Duluth who are served dinner at the Union Gospel Mission (just across the street from First Presbyterian - which, by the way, is just a couple of blocks from the lake) We visited with people who came in for dinner and one student in particular asked to stay longer with another group so he could continue visiting with a couple of men at his table.
Another student was pleasantly surprised that she really didn't have trouble talking with the elderly residents at the nursing home...she was very at ease and found herself to be chatty when she thought it would be awkward. Several of the 6th grade boys sang for a resident at the nursing home they visited.
One group did a car wash fundraiser at their nursing home yesterday and sold root beer floats today to fund an outing they will do with the residents later in the week, while another group will hold a car wash at their nursing home tomorrow.
Others have mowed lawns, cleaned bathrooms, cleaned rust off of canned goods at the foodshelf, pulled weeds, played with children, listened to faith-filled stories from young and old, played games, and generally changed the world around them in small and simple, yet profound, ways.
It's FABULOUS!!
I need to go and play some four-square now, but will post some pictures later this evening.
We are all tired and slept a lot easier and harder last night than the first and I think tonight will be even more so.
Your kids are GREAT and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be with them and learn from their servant hearts.
Leann
